The original Gossip Girl launched the careers of Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Sebastian Stan, and Chace Crawford. The show that premiered in 2007 still has a passionate and cult following. Due to streaming services, Gossip Girl has been able to impact new audiences more than a decade later. Will the reboot have the same impact?
What made the original so iconic?
Following wealthy teenagers in New York City was a fascinating storyline in the 2000s. We were able to get a glimpse into the world of the elite. They lived in penthouses and wore high fashion on a daily basis. Last season Tory Burch flats were shunned and weekly trips to Bergdorff Goodman was a necessity. Due to social media being so accessible, will the reboot have the same effect? We can check in on the rich and famous now just by opening Instagram and TikTok.
Besides the characters, Gossip Girl was known for its fashion. High fashion designers were sending their clothes to the set in hopes that Blair or Serena will be seen wearing their designs. The show set trends and influenced the fashion world outside of the show. The reboot is aiming to have the same impact when it comes to fashion. Their goal is to have a similar, but with a 2021 twist.
